Mr. Gutride, a founding partner of Gutride Safier LLP, has successfully litigated some of the largest class actions in the country. He and Mr. Safier have obtained settlements providing a right to cash refunds to hundreds of millions of purchasers of mislabeled products, including flash memory, hard disk drives, and online travel reservations. Another settlement forced Wells Fargo to disgorge more than a million dollars in mutual fund fees. They also obtained settlements requiring Netflix to provide millions of free movie rentals and a restaurant to pay employees for missed breaks.
Mr. Gutride also successfully persuaded the California Courts of Appeal to reject all appeals of these settlements. He also argued two successful appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals to the Ninth Circuit in false advertising cases.
Before founding Gutride Safier, Adam litigated cases in a wide variety of industries and areas of law. He tried to a jury an insurance coverage case that settled before verdict for $900 million. He defended a Japanese company in a federal suit for U.S. patent infringement. He defeated an Open Meeting Act claim against the California Governor in a case before the California Supreme Court.
At Gutride Safier, Adam focuses on consumer fraud, employer wrongdoing and securities fraud.
